Horses as Therapists? Victorian Horse Jewelry

October 27, 2010 by Alison Greene

Everything old eventually becomes new again.  That’s a truth we’ve seen play out time and time again in the fashion world…no sooner do we see a trend fade away into history than we see it come back around again!  The same thing happens in the world of healing, where one of the oldest comforts in the world — spending time in the company of horses, drawing strength and solace from their presence — is being used in the therapeutic environment.

The Healing Power of Horses

According to this article from Bloomberg.com, Therapists use horses to treat depression, anxiety and attention-deficit and post-traumatic-stress disorders, among other maladies. Our equine friends are also assisting with marriage and parent counseling and corporate team-building.

As any horse lover knows, horses are incredibly intelligent. They’re very receptive to the emotions of people around them.  How many times have you walked out to the pasture when you’re feeling a little down, just to watch the horses run, to have one of them walk up to you and nuzzle? It’s a comfort we’ve had since the earliest days. The companionship of a good horse can make the worst day more bearable.

Horse therapy is very beneficial to the people involved.  It’s also good for the horses.  Many of the horses used in equine assisted therapy are rescue horses or horses that have retired from the racetrack.

Victorian Horse Jewelry

As people are rediscovering the healing power of horses, they’re also finding jewelry from yesteryear that speaks to them. Many people fall in love with the ornate detail, lush curves, and unmatched energy of Victorian Horse Jewelry and find themselves instantly smitten.   Estate jewelry collectors are often delighted by the amount of quality Victorian jewelry available — and the Victorians loved horses! If you’re not in the market for authentic vintage Victorian jewelry, you can get the look and style for a fraction of the price with modern pieces created in the Victorian style.  Appropriate for every environment, classy and stylish, Victorian horse jewelry is one of the best ‘old’ looks people fall in love with every day!

About Alison Greene

Show Stable Artisans, The Equestrian Jeweler, was started in 1994 by 2 friends who had a passion for horses and jewelry- and who wanted to share the passion with others. They sought out the best artisans who created the finest pieces of equestrian jewelry -beautiful and keepsake pieces that reflected the equestrian lifestyle.

We chose the name for our blog for 2 reasons. The first reason is because we hope to “spotlight” the relevant trends, horse jewelry and information that will be of interest to you. The second reason we chose the name is to honor the most wonderful horse I have ever had- In the Spotlight, the chestnut horse pictured throughout this blog. She was an unbelievable show horse, a loving companion and my horse of a lifetime!
